May Style Edit

I know the rest of the world is getting warmer, but here in Australia, we are snuggling under a blanket sipping hot chocolate. Winter has finally arrived. I LOVE WINTER CLOTHING. You've heard me say that before having you? It's the season of boots, huge scarfs, coats, chunky knits and more. I honestly cannot be happier, so here I am today, starting a new monthly series, rounding up a couple of my favourite style pieces from each month.

Camel Coat

If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@mstiffanyyang), you know I’m obsessed with this Jac + Jack Camel Coat. I know camel cis consider quite neutral & classic colour for most people, but honestly, this is literally one of the more vibrant pieces in my wardrobe. Usually, when I invest in a coat, I try to think of at least three different ways to wear it before handing my credit card over. And in this case, my styling option is way over five. My usual turtleneck with skinny jeans, leopard skirt, shorts with knee-high boots, a pleated skirt with sneakers…etc. Name anything, trust me almost everything work.

camel coat-4.jpg

Slim Tote

Honestly, I have been carrying this tote since summer. It's literally the best all season piece. I love the trio layering design, so you can choose to go with the camel or black side, depending on your outfit of the day. After owning a couple of 3.1 Phillip Lim bags, it is safe to say their quality is pretty amazing, and they last you years — well worth the price point. This particular tote is super light and comes with 4 sections for your to organise your daily essentials. I personally got mine from Shopbop, sadly it's sold out here, but I managed to find one via Saks.

There you have it, my very first Monthly Style Edit post, I hope you find it interesting. Once again, thanks to the amazing Annie for creating the visuals. We had to run around South Melbourne while its raining to get the shots we planned, so I apologise if my hair looks a bit…well, wet. All that said, I’m still proud with how they turned out. Hopefully, you love them as much as I do.

most worn jewellery pieces

You lot know me, I love jewellery. In my opinion, there’s no better way to treat yourself with a piece of jewellery. I still remember during my teenage years where I would spend all my pocket money on bracelets so I could stack them up on my wrist (my style back then was very ‘out there’). Till this day, I would never leave the house with bare hands or neck unless I’m going to the gym. However, in the past few years, as my personal style changed, I’ve collated my everyday jewellery uniform into something more delicate & minimal. All that said, as I consider myself quite the expert in this area (in my mind), I thought it would be nice to share with you a couple of my most worn pieces, here are the deats…

OPEN PRINGLE RING

THE GOES WITH EVERYTHING pieces

Sarah & Sebastian is the definers of ‘delicate & minimal jewellery can be fun too!’. They are the masters of clean lines that literally goes with everything. It keeps your styling process fuss-free. They are my favourite Australian jewellery brand, no jest. Even though they do infuse seasonal trends to their designs, their pieces are never too far from every day. My personal favourites from this by-the-sea brand are their Open Pringle Ring, Sud Ring (which unfortunately looks sold out now for both), as well as the Pheobe Perle Ring. I won’t spend too much time talking about the first two because I don’t want to tease you, but the Phoebe Perle Ring is definitely something worth checking out since it’s still online. If you’ve been hesitating to try pearl jewellery because you find them overwhelming, it’s great to start with something like this — classic meets modern. Five creamy pearls set on a fine clean line that adds a nice modern romantic touch to your day-to-day outfit.

PEARLS

Different from the Phoebe Perle Ring from Sarah & Sebastian, the ones I’m mentioning here has a more of a statement characteristic. The Open Pearl Infinity Ring by Beatriz Palacios has been my go-to statement piece for the past months; from the minute I saw it online (via #accro) I knew it was exactly what I wanted from an open designed ring. For me, it’s the perfect index finger fit. The two zircons shine perfectly without taking away too much spotlight from the pearl on top. The details are impressive, and yet it doesn’t weigh down on my finger like some statement pieces usually do. I just love it. The second ring in this category is the Half Pearl Ring by Shihara. For those of you who have been around, will be pretty familiar with this piece. Clearly I’m a fan of this Japanese brand. As you may have noticed, I prefer pearls that comes with a bit of twist. In this case, this half covered design is right up on my alley. And given my personal style is quite simple as well, this fills in the gap just enough without causing a bold scene.

HIGH-END/luxury JEWELLERY

Now, moving on to pieces with a higher price point. I usually get myself a piece of fine jewellery for sentimental reasons. Mainly for a self-encouragement, it's my way of telling myself — 'you worked hard, you deserve it!'. My very first piece in this genre is the beige gold Coco Crush Ring by Chanel. I bought this four years ago when I first moved to London. It was the first goal I have achieved, and I wanted something to commemorate that. Honestly, like many of my jewellery pieces, it goes with every outfit. It's modern, feminine and classic at the same time. I can see myself wearing it for a lifetime. Next, is the Rose Des Vents Ring by Dior (design by Victoire de Castellane). I bought this in Dubai almost 2 years ago as a gift to my 25-years self. The eight-pointed wind rose represents the lucky start concept, however, to me, it looks like a compass; which suits the travel bugs I was born with. It is perhaps the ring I've gotten the most compliment of. The twist in between lets you switch between the gemstone or wind rose side. Wear it by itself or along with your other collection; honestly, it never goes wrong.

Ruminating on my jewellery collection as I prepare for this post, I have concluded yet another ground-breaking truth: one can never have enough fine jewellery. Whether 'fine' better defined as being the design, the materials or the price tag, they are indeed a girl's best friend. Meanwhile, I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the women I surrounded myself with. That, meaning the amazing photographer behind this post — Annie. As a photographer myself, I tend to be slightly insecure & sensitive while working with others in the same (sort of) field. But this year I've learned to let part of my controlling personality go. ‘It's okay to ask for help’ — I say this to myself while grinning at these amazing visual outcomes we conducted through a 4 hours brunch in Collingwood. Thanks, Annie.

life lately

I'm writing to you guys in my new apartment (sort of ), at the eve of my 3rd month since I moved to Melbourne. I know this sounds a bit poetic, but nothing will really change. I will wake up, eat breakfast & reply emails for my freelance work, go to my other job, write, brainstorm shoots, plan shoots, and drink hot chocolate. Just as I have done for the past 3 months.

But we can start from all the thing that had happened since 3 months ago.

Untitled-1-1.jpg

one. my photo series

3 months ago, I arrived Melbourne with 2 big suitcases. I had the biggest plans, and the hope of everything will work out smoothly. It was one the most positive periods of my life. Until I realised how naive I was. I had only one client, but multiple bills to pay. I will be refreshing my emails every hour, and nothing will come up. That's when I found out what I was lacking - a local portfolio. I started reaching out to people, pitching brands & other creatives if they'd like to work together, that's how Dusk to Dawn happened. Now I have a brilliant team of girls (and boys!), that are so good at their craft, and I always refer back to them when I need to do a shoot.

Untitled-3.jpg
Untitled-2-2.jpg

This editorial will be published on an independent magazine from LA. I can't say much yet, but will definitely let you guys know when the issue is released later this August. I'm also currently just showcasing volume 1 of the shoot, 2 & 3 will be live really soon!

two. survived through my new job

I started a new job  a while go. I have been freelancing my whole life, and despite all the creative projects, I still have zero experience when it comes to the business side. Being a freelancer means you're running your own business, which is why I wanted a marketing job at the first place. The funny thing about this position is that, I wasn't the kind of person they were originally looking for, they wanted someone with at least 3 years in the fashion marketing field. But I love the role so much and just asked anyway. I think my boss found it interesting so she interviewed me. I was honest right of the bat, telling her I know I'm far from what you're looking for, but I'm willing to learn, and listed out what I can bring in to the her business.

The first two weeks was hard, I will be sitting at the studio (it's a clothing brand I'm working in), figuring out all the backend and admin stuff till 12am. I know 2 months doesn't seem long at all, but when you were originally only meant to be there once a week, and now they ask you to be there 4 days (aka everyday, the studio doesn't run on a Friday). You're doing something right. My advice to those of you who wants to get recognized in the work field? Grin it, bear it, ask questions and put in 150%. It's tiring, but worth it.

DSCF1828-Edit.jpg

three. the current state of #houseroselane

If I'm honest, I'm not satisfied with my apartment yet. I'm waiting for a few decor piece & prints to arrive, and I'm also still looking for a coffee table I like. Some of you might have seen sneak peek of the place when I first moved in, which was a lot different then it looks right now, Anyways, I went for something a bit feminine this time, brought in a lot of warm colour and dusty pink. I'm loving the change of scene. It's nice, don't you think?

DSCF1863.jpg
details-1.jpg

I'm using the lounge area as a home office, living and dining room. I also have another room as my photo studio, filled with props, mood board, and lighting equipments, that's where most of the product flay-lays happen (let me know if guys like me to do a studio tour). There will be full post about the whole decorating process, so I'm not gonna spill too much about it today.

four. (re) learning a language

I've got an excited project happening in Tokyo later this year, so I suppose there's no better time to pick up where I left of with Japanese again. I had learn it a few years ago during one particular summer holiday, and that's probably it. I recently enrolled in a 3 months course, it's pretty intense, but it feels good to learn another language again.

five. beauty go-to

I am CRAZY about the Estēe Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I've heard so much about this product for years, but since I have sensitive skin, I was a bit hesitant. Until I got to try a sample for 2 weeks, and honestly I have never been so amazed by a serum. My redness was better, skin looks plumper, and even the dullness from late night sleeps were less obvious. Surprise surprise, I now own a full bottle.

esteelauder-mstiffanyyang.jpg
makeup_essentials_tiffanyyang.jpg

and let's end it with make up..

In order of application, let's start with Armani Luminous Silk foundation. A medium coverage base but extremely natural. I'm light-handed when it comes to make up, so my finish is sheer and silky, but you can always build it up. Not cakey, and skin looks like skin. I've had struggles with setting powders for so long since my skin is pretty dry. For those of you with the similar problem, I would recommend trying the new Hour Glass Veil Setting Powder. It sets your make up without leaving a white cast, doesn't dry out, and even comes with a bit of glow. Speaking of glow, the Clinique uplighting Illuminating Powder is my current highlight go-to.

So this is what happened and whats going on. I hope it's not too long to read, have a great week x

My Mini Bag Crush

So, where do I start? When I look at my closet, I realised I have a huge addiction to purses. I can be pretty simple and monochrome when it comes to clothes, but I’m always on the lookout for new colours, shapes & designs to dump in my everyday essentials. Recently, I’ve been wearing my mini bags on repeat. I love how easy they are to travel with. And they stop me from bringing non-necessary items (declutter!). All that said, I gathered some of my favourites that will be perfect for all you mini bag lovers too! Keep scrolling!

⏤ the backpack

Mini backpacks have been on trend for a few seasons now, but it's only recently that I caught up with it. Honestly, I'm not normally up for logo patterns, but somehow this Gucci Padlock Supremewas love at first sight. Perhaps it's the black & brown leather patches that gave it a more vintage look. The best part? It comes with a little secure lock, which is perfect when you're on-the-go exploring a new city. My jam.

⏤ the bucket

Now, let me introduce you to my newest arm candy (you may saw me raving it on Instagram). I have been looking for the perfect cream leather bag with a solid circle handle for months, and finally, Net-a-Porter heard my prayers and brought in the Simon Miller collection. I am beyond obsessed. I know it looks pretty small, but trust me when I say this; this little bucket fits my Fujifilm camera, lipstick & wallet, and there's still space for more.

⏤ the structured

I've been eyeing on the Moynat Paradis for so long. The original version is too big for me (finding the right purse size can be a pain when you're 5 ft 1), so when I saw the new petit size during PFW, adding it to my collection is a no-brainer. It comes with a detachable strap so you can wear it as a cute cross body or a lady clutch for a special night. Though it has a structured look, because of the leather, the texture is actually pretty soft & smooth.

3 Jewellery Designers I Can't Stop Thinking About

Sice there is nothing I do more than scrolling through Instagram for jewellery pieces I would potentially wear. I thought it would be nice to share three designers I've been loving recently and I just can not stop thinking about. Without further ado; here they are:

■ Shihara | Tokyo, Japan

I found Shihara through Dover Street Market Ginza, and though I only own one pearl ring from them, I've been recommending them to all my friends ever since. Most of their designs are pretty minimal, and yet with a beautiful structure that enhances the beauty of the gems. They are a bit on the pricier side, but I do think if you don't mind splurging yourself every once in a while, fine jewellery would be the best choice. All that said, even scrolling through their Instagram feed is an enjoyment; their aesthetic is to-die-for.

 ■ Saskia Diez | Munich, Germany

For the sake of un-pierced ears. I don't have my ears pierced, which made finding the perfect ear cuffs my daily routine. Made in Germany, Saskia Diez has become one of my favourite designers since I discovered her through #accro. Her pieces are all extremely timeless, and yet still comes with a modern twist. They look good, feel good, and is so comfortable to wear. Need I say more?

■ Chun-Ting Jewellery | Taipei, Taiwan

I've been raving about this brand for a while. I met Chun-Ting in the UK a few years ago. She was studying jewellery design back then, and she visits London occasionally, where we would discover amazing food spots in town together. A few months ago, she launched her store in Taipei, along with a brand new line of delicate pieces. Everything is handmade with the best material and details. I'm so in love!
